I grew up in a small town in upstate NY (let the debate begin…) dreaming of being a high school math teacher. After graduating from Jeffersonville-Youngsville Central School, I trekked a bit north to Hamilton College in central NY where I spent four fantastic, albeit snowy, years studying mathematics and education. Looking for a teaching-related job for the summer between my junior and senior years of college, I stumbled upon an internship at Choate Rosemary Hall. This job would provide me with the opportunity to live in a dorm, advise kids, teach classes, and coach sports. It was the perfect insight into the world of boarding schools, which up until that point I barely knew existed.

After a challenging yet rewarding five weeks I was hooked on the idea of an independent school–it offered everything that I had grown up thinking school should be coming from a small town (small classes, teachers who knew the students both inside and outside of the classroom) and only required a Bachelor’s Degree, not to mention providing food and housing–honestly, what could be better? I looked at a number of schools but was lucky enough to land a job right where it all began, at Choate. I returned there for another summer, went back to Youngsville, and then in August of 2002 packed up the moving truck to begin the adventure in Wallingford.

My time at Choate has continually been rewarding despite the challenging schedule and inherent lack of free time. The relationships I’ve formed with my colleagues as well as my students are incredible and motivate me to be better each day both inside and outside of the classroom. In the summer of 2009, I completed a Masters of Science for Teachers in Mathematics at the University of New Hampshire. Since then I have spent my summers relaxing, rejuvenating, and traveling.
